Seasons - Best time to fish
Bull Reds
- You might catch Big Red Drum any month but May ,September, October, and November are the most consistent months with the biggest schools of BIG Red Drum, also known as bull reds.
Tarpon
- We have a good run of big tarpon most years in late summer. I use live bait, cut bait, and artificials. These trips are NOT for the novice fisherman. I have a lot of experience with large tarpon but "it is tarpon fishing ". The big schools of tarpon are followed by big, really big bull sharks. NO HALF- DAY TARPON fishing charters. Going south on Frazier St ( hwy 17 south ) out of Georgetown you'll cross the big arched bridge over the Sampit River ( still in Georgetown )
Take a right at the FIRST LIGHT soon as you cross the bridge. Follow to boat launch and walk out on the long dock on right.

Full time guide since 1987
I started guiding professionally for stripers at Smith Mountain Lake, VA.
Eventually expanded my service to include Boone Lake and the Tennessee River. Thousands of stripers up to 57 lbs were caught on my boat
I grew up in NC fishing the coastal waters of the Chesapeake Bay, Hatteras Island and Pamlico Sound.
Montana big game guide
Fall of 1997 I started guiding big game hunting trips out of Sundance Wyoming. Continued guiding fishing trips back east the rest of the year. 2000 I began guiding hunts in Montana. Primarily for mule deer, I also guided archery and rifle hunters for whitetail, elk and antelope every fall until 2021
Musky & smallmouth guide
I guided fisherman for musky & smallmouth on the New River in Virginia for a number of years. I used a 18', 140 hp jet boat and raft to navigate one of the oldest rivers in the world ( only the Nile is older ) July 3rd, 2008, 1:30 am while fun fishing alone I caught caught what will always be my personal best musky. She was 54" long and weighed 42 lbs. Took the pic with a tripod and camera timer. She was released.
